Meeting for the tourism organised by the Prefectorial Tourism Comitee of Lefkada
There
was a meeting yesterday at hotel Lefkas organized by the Prefectorial Tourism
Comitee regarding the coordination of efforts when dealing with difficult
situations related to tourism. Many people were gathered since they were interested
parties for this important discussion.
Mr. Kostas Aravanis, the Prefect of Lefkada and basic speaker at the meeting pointed
out that this season will be difficult in terms of tourism both for our country
and of course Lefkada island due to the economic crisis. He also mentioned that
measures should be taken so as to improve the image and aesthetics of Lefkada
to the visitors.

Complains for the road Ligia-Kariotes
The local community strongly disagree with the road works of Ligia-Kariotes. Not only are they opposed to the general scheme but also to the lately placed lighting poles. About this matter There is public discussion about this matter at www.lefkada.org.

General strike on April 21st and 22nd
The whole country will be on strike on April 21st and 22nd with all the expected consequences. Once again, everyone is expected to express their disagreement, including the labour union of Lefkada.

Three hundred people were killed whilst 8.000 are wounded so far, due to the catastrophic earthquake of magnitude 6.9 in south west china. More that eighty five per cent of the buildings in that district have been ruined.

“The girl and the elephant”
The Theatrical team "Αrti della rappresentazione" will bring to us the play called “The girl and the elephant” which is about the friendship of a girl and an elephant in Savana, transferring the audience not only to Africa but also in a world of music and fairytale using video, dance and circus. The play will be given at Artiria on Sunday April 25 at 9p.m. and it is addressed to both adults and children.

Pupil’s contest of photography
Regarding the second pupil’s contest of photography there has been an extension to the closing date now being the 22nd of April. The theme of the contest is “Antithesis” and all pupils are invited to their point of view. The photographs will be exposed at the Theodoros Stamos Gallery from April 26 till May 7 whereas the opening is scheduled for Monday April 25 at 12.30p.m.

Wild birds will be set free
Wild birds will be set free as they will be rehabilitated to their natural environment since they had been successfully treated at the wild animal treating centre of Aegina. Lefkas Animal welfare Association LAWS has scheduled this unique event for Lefkas island on Sunday the 18th of April at 5 in the afternoon, in the location of Grivas Castle at Lefkada Agios Nikolaos Avenue and everyone is invited, especially the children.
